What is a CV? Meaning and full form
CV full form
The full form of CV is Curriculum Vitae, a Latin phrase meaning "the course of your life". In English, CV means a written summary of your education, work experience and skills that you send to an employer when you apply for a job.
What is curriculum vitae? It is the same document — "CV" is simply the short form. So when an advert asks for a "curriculum vitae", a "CV" or a "CV for job", it is asking for the same thing. If you have ever wondered what is meant by CV, or what is mean by CV in a job advert, this is it.
CV meaning in Urdu
CV ka matlab hai curriculum vitae — aap ki taleem, tajurba aur skills ka khulasa jo naukri ke liye employer ko diya jata hai. Urdu mein ise سوانحِ حیات (sawaneh-e-hayat) ya تعارفی خاکہ kaha jata hai.
CV kya hota hai / CV kya hoti hai? Yeh ek ya do safhon ka document hai jis mein aap ka naam, rabta, taleem, tajurba, skills aur references hote hain. Har job application ke sath CV bheji jati hai.
What is a resume? Resume meaning
What is meant by resume? A resume (also written résumé) is a short document — usually one page — that summarises your experience and skills for a specific job. The word comes from French and means "summary". What is a resume for a job? It is your first introduction to an employer: they read it to decide whether to call you for an interview.
- How to pronounce resume: as a document it is said REZ-oo-may. The verb resume (ri-ZOOM) means to start again, as in "classes will resume on Monday" — that is the other resume meaning you will see in dictionaries.
- Resume versus résumé: same document, two spellings. Both are correct.
- Resume meaning in Urdu: resume ka matlab bhi khulasa hai — mukhtasar taaruf jo kisi khaas naukri ke liye banaya jata hai. Resume kya hota hai? Ek safhe ka document jo aap ki woh baatein dikhata hai jo us job ke liye zaroori hain. Resume kise kahate hain, resume kaisa hota hai, resume yani kya hota hai — in sab sawalon ka jawab yahi hai: aap ki qabliyat ka mukhtasar khaka.
Difference between CV and resume
People search CV vs resume, is CV and resume the same, and what is the difference between CV and resume because the two words are used loosely. In Pakistan, most employers say "CV" for both. The traditional difference is this:
| CV (curriculum vitae) | Resume | |
|---|---|---|
| Length | One to several pages | Usually one page, at most two |
| Content | Your full history: all education, jobs, research, publications, training | Only what matters for this job |
| Changes per job | Mostly the same each time | Tailored to each application |
| Common use | Academic, research, medical and government applications | Private-sector and corporate jobs |
What is the main difference between a CV and a resume? Length and focus. Are CV and resume the same? In everyday use, nearly — both introduce you to an employer. Is resume and CV the same document? Not strictly: a resume is shorter and tailored, a CV is complete.
Difference between CV and resume with example
- CV example: a lecturer applying to a university lists every degree, both research papers, conferences attended, all four teaching posts and ten training courses — three pages.
- Resume example: a sales officer applying to a bank lists two jobs, the degree, and the six skills in the advert — one page.
This builder makes both. Add everything for a full CV, or keep only the most relevant items for a one-page resume. The same data works with every template.
CV aur resume mein kya farq hai? (in Urdu)
CV or resume me kya antar hai — yeh sawal bohat log poochte hain.
CV aur resume mein farq yeh hai ke CV mukammal record hoti hai — saari taleem aur saara tajurba — jabke resume mukhtasar hota hai aur sirf us job ke mutabiq hota hai jis ke liye aap apply kar rahe hain. Pakistan mein aam tor par dono ko "CV" hi kaha jata hai. To resume and CV — same or different? Kaam ek hi hai, lambai aur tafseel mein farq hai.
Other documents people confuse with a CV
- CV and profile: a profile (LinkedIn or a job portal profile) is an online page anyone can view; a CV is a document you send. The difference between a resume and a profile is the same.
- Resume and job application: the application is the form or letter for one vacancy; the resume or CV is attached to it.
- CV and domicile: a domicile certificate is an official document proving which province and district you belong to, often required for government jobs in Pakistan. It is attached separately — it does not go on your CV.
CV format: which one should you use?
CV format — many people in Pakistan call it the CV pattern — means how the information is arranged. Whether you search for a professional CV pattern, the best CV pattern or a CV pattern for a job, you are asking the same question: which order and layout should I use? There are three standard resume formats:
- Chronological (reverse-chronological) — work experience first, newest job at the top. It is the best CV format for most people and the one employers and recruitment software expect.
- Functional (skills-based) — groups skills first and plays down dates. Useful after a long gap, but many recruiters distrust it.
- Combination (hybrid) — a skills summary at the top, then chronological experience. Which CV follows the functional and chronological format? The combination format.
A quiz favourite, "which of the following is not a resume format?" — anything other than these three (such as a "narrative" or "alphabetical" format) is the answer.
Best CV format in Pakistan
For most jobs in Pakistan, the best CV format is a clean reverse-chronological CV:
- Name, job title and contact details
- Profile or career objective
- Work experience (or internships, for freshers)
- Education
- Skills
- Certifications, languages
- References, if the employer asks for them
This is the professional CV format almost every private employer, bank and multinational in Pakistan accepts, and it is what the one-column templates in this builder use. For government jobs, follow the format given in the advert; where none is given, the same order works.
Latest CV format 2026
The latest CV format is simpler than older styles: no tables for layout, no "Curriculum Vitae" heading at the top, no full home address, and a short profile instead of a long objective. The new CV format also puts the job title under your name so the reader knows what you do in one glance. Every template in this builder follows the 2026 CV format.
Simple CV format
A simple CV format — also called a normal CV format or basic CV template — is a single column of text with clear headings and no graphics. It is the safest choice for online applications and the easiest to read. Choose Centred Classic, Times Classic or Corporate Bands if you want a simple CV template.
A blank CV format or empty CV format is just the headings with no content. Press Start empty in the builder to get one and fill it in yourself.
International CV format
An international CV format is a one or two-page reverse-chronological CV in English, without personal details such as date of birth or marital status, and without a photo unless asked for. If you are applying to multinational companies or overseas employers, use a one-column template and leave the photo out.
Academic CV format
An academic CV is longer: education comes first, followed by research, publications, teaching, conferences and grants. Teachers, lecturers and researchers applying to universities or the HEC should use it. Add publications and conferences under Additional information in the builder.
CV page size
The standard CV page size is A4 (210 × 297 mm), which is what this builder produces. Keep margins even and the font size between 10 and 12 points for body text.
CV templates: professional, modern and simple designs
This builder has 12 free CV templates. Six are one-column and six are two-column:
- One-column (ATS-friendly): Centred Classic, Spaced Headings, Grey Banner, Right-Aligned Serif, Times Classic, Corporate Bands
- Two-column (with photo): Blue Arch, Yellow Timeline, Beige Arches, Orange Playful, Blush Sidebar, Slate Curve
Professional CV template
A professional CV template is plain and easy to scan: dark text on white, clear section headings, consistent dates. Corporate Bands and Right-Aligned Serif are the most formal — the right professional CV design for banks, accounts, administration and management roles.
Minimalist and attractive CV designs
A minimalist resume template keeps to black, white and one grey — Spaced Headings and Grey Banner are the cleanest. If you want an attractive CV format that still looks professional, the two-column designs add colour without clutter. Looking for cool free CV designs or awesome resume templates for a creative job? Orange Playful and Yellow Timeline stand out on a desk full of plain CVs. These are great CV templates, free, for any field.
Modern CV template
A modern CV template uses one accent colour, a sidebar or shapes, and a photo. Slate Curve, Blue Arch and Blush Sidebar are modern CV designs that still keep the text readable. Use a modern CV format for design, marketing, media and customer-facing jobs.
Best CV template
Which CV template is the best? The one that suits the job:
- Applying online through a portal or company website → a one-column template
- Sending by email or WhatsApp, or handing it in → any template
- Creative jobs → a two-column design with a photo
- Government, banking, academic → Times Classic, Corporate Bands or Centred Classic
CV templates with photo and without photo
- CV with picture: Blue Arch, Yellow Timeline, Beige Arches, Orange Playful, Blush Sidebar and Slate Curve have a photo frame. Upload a photo and it is cropped and resized on your device.
- CV without picture: all six one-column templates. A CV without photo template is the better choice for online applications.
Where to get CV templates for free
Where to get resume templates for free without hidden charges? Right here — all 12 templates are free to use and download, with no watermark. Which resume templates are really free? Watch out for sites that let you design a CV and then ask for payment to download; this builder never does.
CV design ideas
A few CV design ideas that work in any template: one accent colour only, the same date format everywhere, bold job titles, and white space between sections. Resume design ideas that don't work: photos in the background, more than two fonts, and skill ratings out of ten.
Microsoft Word CV templates
Many people search for a CV template in Word, a CV format word free download or an MS Word CV template. Press Download Word in the builder and you get your CV as a .docx file — a CV template doc you can keep editing in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or WPS Office on a computer or phone. (Older Word versions call it a CV format doc or .doc; they open .docx files too.)
The Word file is a clean one-column CV format in MS Word: real Word headings and bullet points, no text boxes, no tables for layout. That makes it easy to change and easy for application software to read. The colourful designs are for PDF and PNG; for Word, simple works best. It is a free CV template Word download with your own details already in it — no blank template to fill in.
How to make a CV in MS Word
If you want to build it yourself — how to create a CV in MS Word or how to make a CV on a laptop in Word:
- Open Word and choose a blank A4 document.
- Type your name in a large bold font, your job title under it, and your phone, email and city on one line.
- Use Word's Heading 1 style for each section: Profile, Work Experience, Education, Skills.
- Use bullet points for your duties and achievements.
- Avoid text boxes and tables for layout — recruitment software often cannot read them.
- Save as PDF (File → Save As → PDF) before sending.
It is quicker to fill in the fields here and let the CV template do the layout for you.
What is an infographic resume?
An infographic resume uses charts, icons and skill bars instead of plain text. It can look striking but is hard for recruitment software to read. The skill bars in Slate Curve and Beige Arches are decoration only — the skill names underneath are always plain text, so nothing is lost.
ATS-friendly CV: what it is and how to pass it
What is an ATS resume?
An ATS (applicant tracking system) is software that companies use to collect and sort job applications. It reads your CV, pulls out your name, contact details, job titles, dates and skills, and ranks you against the job description. An ATS-friendly CV — or ATS-friendly resume — is one that software can read correctly.
ATS meaning in a CV: when an advert says "ATS-compliant CV", it means a CV built so that software can read it without errors.
Why should a resume be ATS-friendly?
Many large employers, banks and multinationals in Pakistan receive hundreds of applications per vacancy and use an ATS to shortlist. A CV the software cannot read may never reach a person, however good you are. An ATS-optimized resume avoids that.
What resume format is ATS-friendly?
- A one-column layout, with sections in the usual order
- Real text, not text inside images
- Standard headings: Summary, Work Experience, Education, Skills
- Common fonts and no text in headers or footers
- PDF with selectable text, or Word
Every template here produces a PDF with real, selectable text, and the headings use standard names. The one-column templates are the most ATS-compliant CV designs; the two-column ones keep the text in reading order and work with most systems, but a one-column design is the safer choice for strict online portals. Which resume is ATS-friendly? The one-column ones.
Testing your CV against ATS
An ATS resume test or CV ATS test simply means checking whether software reads your CV correctly. A quick home test: open your PDF, select all the text (Ctrl+A) and paste it into a plain notepad. If your name, headings, dates and bullet points come out in the right order, an ATS will read it too. If words are missing or jumbled, use a one-column template. That is the same check any resume tester, resume scorer or resume ATS tester runs.
How is a resume score calculated?
An ATS score or resume score usually measures how closely your CV matches the job description: how many of its keywords and job titles appear in your CV, whether your experience matches the required years, and whether the software could read every section. There is no single standard — each system scores differently.
Free ATS CV checker
This page has a free ATS CV checker built in. Open ATS check: compare with a job advert in the builder, paste the job advert, and press Check my CV. You get:
- an ATS score out of 100 — keywords and structure combined
- the advert's keywords and phrases that are already in your CV
- the ones that are missing, so you can add those that are true for you
- a list of structure checks: contact details, summary length, dates, numbers in your achievements, skills, page count and layout
It works as a resume score checker for the CV you make here, or for any CV: choose A CV I paste below and paste the text of a CV made in Word or anywhere else. It runs on this page — nothing is uploaded, and there is no AI. Is it free? Yes, as often as you like.
Compare your CV to the job description (by hand)
You can also compare your resume to the job description yourself:
- Copy the advert's requirements into a note.
- Highlight the skills, tools, qualifications and job titles it mentions.
- Check each one against your CV. If you have it, make sure the same words appear.
- Move the most important matches into your profile and the first bullet points.
- Remove anything that has nothing to do with this job.
That is the core of what any ATS resume checker, CV analyzer, resume job matcher or resume optimizer does — and what the checker on this page does for you in a second. A resume JD matcher simply compares these words. Do the same when you compare your resume to a job posting on Joblo.
Free CV review before you send it
Treat this as your own free CV review or resume review, free — the same things a professional reviewer looks at. If you want to enhance your CV or upgrade your CV for free, work through the list, then ask a friend in the same field to read it once. A resume enhancer tool can suggest words, but these checks matter more.
Use this as your own free CV checker and CV quality checker:
- Name, phone and email are correct and on the first line
- Job title under your name matches the job you are applying for
- Profile is two to four lines and mentions the role
- Every job has a title, employer, city and dates
- Achievements have numbers where possible
- Skills match the advert
- No spelling mistakes (read it aloud)
- One or two pages
- Saved as PDF, file named
Your-Name-CV.pdf
Do resumes get flagged for AI?
Recruiters notice CVs that read like generic AI text: long, vague sentences with no numbers. ATS software does not reject a CV for being written with help, but a human reader may. Write your own points about what you actually did, with numbers, and your CV will read as yours. What resume format is best for AI screening? The same as for any ATS: one column, standard headings, plain text.
What to write in each section of your CV
CV order of sections
The usual resume order of sections is: contact details → profile → work experience → education → skills → certifications → languages → references.
- Experience before education? Yes, once you have a job. Where should education go on a resume? At the top only if you are a student, a fresh graduate, or applying for an academic post.
- Skills before experience? Only for a skills-based format; otherwise skills come after education.
- Where to put an internship on a resume? Under Work experience, like a job, with "Intern" in the title.
- Where to put references on a resume? Last.
- Where to put work experience? Straight after the profile.
What a CV must look like
A good CV must look like this: your name large at the top, a one-line job title, contact details on one line, then clear sections with bold headings and short bullet points. Every date in the same format, one or two pages, and plenty of white space.
Personal information in a CV
Include your name, phone number, email address and city. A LinkedIn link helps for office jobs. You do not need your full home address, CNIC number, father's name, religion or marital status on a private-sector CV — add them only if the advert or a government application form asks for them. A CV without personal details beyond these is normal and safer.
Job title in a CV (headline)
Put a job title or CV headline under your name: Accountant, Computer Operator, Staff Nurse, Fresh BBA Graduate. What is a resume title? This line. Match it to the job you are applying for.
Resume headline examples:
- Accountant with 5 years in payroll and tax filing
- Fresh Computer Science graduate — web development
- Certified Nurse — ICU and emergency care
- Sales Officer — FMCG distribution, Punjab
Resume headline examples for freshers: "BBA Graduate — Marketing", "Intermediate (ICS) — Data Entry and MS Office", "MBBS Graduate — House Job Completed".
About me / profile / summary (the overview section)
The about me in a CV, also called a CV profile, professional summary or CV summary, is two to four lines at the top saying who you are, what you do well, and what you are looking for. Do resumes need a summary? It is not required, but a good one is the first thing a recruiter reads — keep it.
Some templates call it the CV overview section or resume overview section; the content is the same. Do resumes have professional summaries? Most good ones do.
How to write it: role + years of experience + two or three strengths + what you bring.
CV profile ideas / resume about me ideas: mention the job you want, one number from your work or studies, and one strength an employer in that field cares about.
CV overview examples and resume overview examples (experienced):
- Accountant with five years of experience in general ledger, payroll and tax filing. Prepares monthly financial statements and supports external audits. Comfortable with QuickBooks, SAP and advanced Excel.
- Secondary school teacher with seven years teaching Mathematics to grades 9 and 10. Board results above 90% for three years running.
- Sales officer who grew a Lahore distribution route from 60 to 140 retailers in two years.
CV summary for freshers / about me examples for freshers:
- BBA (Marketing) graduate from the University of the Punjab with an internship in digital marketing. Good at writing, social media and Excel. Looking for an entry-level marketing role.
- ICS student with strong typing speed (45 wpm) and MS Office skills, seeking a data entry or computer operator position.
- Fresh MBBS graduate who has completed a house job in medicine, looking for a medical officer post.
About me examples for students with no experience:
- Intermediate student with good communication skills and experience helping in a family shop. Reliable, punctual and quick to learn.
- Final-year BS Computer Science student who has built three web projects in React and Node.js. Looking for an internship.
Resume about me kya likhe? Apna shoba, apni taleem ya tajurba, do teen khoobiyan aur kis tarah ki job chahiye — bas teen chaar lines.
Career objective for a CV
A career objective says what job you want. Today most people use a profile instead — resume instead of an objective — but an objective for a CV still helps freshers and people changing careers. Do resumes need an objective? No; use one only if you have little experience.
CV objective examples:
- To start my career as a junior accountant in a reputable organisation where I can use my B.Com knowledge and learn from experienced professionals.
- To work as a customer service representative where my communication skills and patience help customers and the company.
Simple objective for a resume for freshers:
- Seeking an entry-level position in banking to apply my finance studies and grow with the organisation.
- A motivated fresh graduate looking for a role where I can learn quickly and contribute from day one.
Career objective for a resume for experienced people: Operations supervisor with eight years in textile manufacturing, seeking a plant manager role to lead a larger team and improve output.
Career change resume objective example: Teacher moving into corporate training, bringing ten years of lesson planning and classroom management to employee development.
Career objective for a computer science student: Final-year BSCS student seeking a software development internship to apply my skills in Python and web development in a real team.
Objective alternatives: a professional summary, a headline, or a short "key skills" line.
Work experience
For each job: job title, employer, city, dates, then three to six bullet points. Start each point with an action word and add a number where you can. This is the XYZ format: accomplished X, measured by Y, by doing Z.
CV duties examples:
- Processed 200+ supplier invoices a month with no payment errors
- Handled 60 customer calls a day and resolved 90% on the first call
- Trained four new staff on the billing system
Resume examples with promotions: list each title under the same employer with its own dates — e.g. Assistant Manager (2023–present) above Sales Officer (2020–2023) at the same company.
Resume job description examples for an assistant manager: Supervised a team of 12; prepared weekly sales reports; handled stock ordering; resolved customer complaints; trained new staff.
Better words for your CV
Strong resume words and CV words make your points specific. Alternative words for the phrases everyone overuses:
| Instead of | Try |
|---|---|
| Led | directed, headed, supervised, coordinated, guided |
| Developed | built, designed, created, introduced, launched |
| Managed | ran, oversaw, handled, organised, controlled |
| Assisted | helped, contributed to, worked with, backed |
| Responsible for | handled, owned, delivered, took charge of |
| Supported | enabled, maintained, served, strengthened |
Other good CV sentences: reduced costs by, increased sales by, completed ahead of schedule, achieved, improved, trained, resolved.
Education
List your highest qualification first: degree, institution, city, years, and grade or CGPA if it is good. Matric and Intermediate are enough for the last two lines. Resume qualifications can be shown as a list or, for government applications, as a qualification table with columns for degree, board/university, year, marks and division.
A CV without education listed is unusual; if you have not completed a degree, write what you did complete, or "BS Computer Science (in progress, expected 2027)".
Skills for a CV
Skills for a CV — the skills to mention in a CV — should come from the job advert. Mix job skills with a few soft skills.
Best skills for a CV:
- Computer skills: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, typing speed, Google Workspace, data entry, QuickBooks, SAP, AutoCAD, Photoshop, programming languages
- Soft skills: communication, teamwork, problem solving, time management, customer service, adaptability
- Managerial skills: team leadership, planning, budgeting, reporting, staff training, stock control
- Languages: Urdu, English, and any regional language — say how well you speak each
Skills for a CV for freshers: MS Office, typing, communication, willingness to learn, teamwork, basic accounting or the tools taught in your degree.
Where to put skills on a resume? After education, or at the top in a short "Key skills" line if they are your strongest point.
Hobbies for a CV
Hobbies add a little personality and can fill space on a fresher's CV. Choose ones that say something useful:
- Best hobbies for a CV: reading, cricket or other team sports (teamwork), volunteering, debating (communication), photography or design (creativity), coding projects, travelling
- Avoid generic entries like "watching TV" or "listening to music" on their own
Put them under Interests in the builder.
References
CV references are people an employer can contact about you — usually a former manager or teacher.
CV reference example:
Imran Qureshi — Finance Manager, Crescent Foods, Lahore — +92 321 0000000 — imran.q@example.com
- Do resumes need references? Not usually. Add two if the advert asks; otherwise the reference line "References available on request" is enough, or leave the section out — a resume without references is normal.
- Character reference: someone who knows you personally (a teacher or community leader), not a relative. Freshers may use one; experienced candidates should use work references.
Photo on a CV
Should a CV have a photo — or should a CV contain a photo at all? In Pakistan, many employers expect a photo, and many government and private application forms ask for one. For online applications to multinationals, leave it off.
If you add one, use a professional CV picture: a recent passport-style photo, plain background, formal clothes, face clearly visible, no selfies or group photos. Are resumes with pictures a good idea? For printed or emailed CVs in Pakistan, usually yes; for international or ATS-screened jobs, no — which is why some resumes should not have a picture.
CV for freshers, students and internships
CV without work experience
A CV without experience leads with education and skills. What to include in a resume with no work experience:
- A profile saying what you studied and what job you want
- Education, with your best grades
- Projects, final-year project, thesis
- Internships, volunteering, part-time work, family business work
- Skills and certifications (short courses count)
- Activities: sports, societies, debates, competitions
CV examples for students with no experience: use the Start empty button, fill in education first, and add a projects section under Work experience titled "Academic project".
CV after matric, after 12th (Intermediate) and after graduation
- CV after matric with no experience: name, contact, objective, Matric result, skills (typing, computer basics), any short courses, languages.
- Resume after 12th: add your Intermediate group (FSc, ICS, ICom, FA) and any certificate courses.
- CV after graduation: degree first, then internship, then skills.
- Resume after college / after high school: the same approach — lead with the most recent qualification.
CV for an internship
A CV for an internship is one page: profile, education, relevant coursework or projects, skills. Internship CV examples list the tools you learned in class. After it ends, move the internship to Work experience — a resume after an internship looks stronger.
Find internships on Joblo: internship jobs in Pakistan.
Student CV examples by degree
- BBA / B.Com student CV: internship at a bank or firm, Excel, accounting software, presentations
- Computer science (CS) student CV: projects with links, languages and frameworks, GitHub, competitions
- Medical graduate CV: house job, rotations, registrations, clinical skills
- Undergraduate CV: "BS (in progress)" with expected year, CGPA, projects
How to prepare a resume for a job
To prepare a resume for a job: read the advert twice, list what it asks for, then fill in the builder with evidence for each item — a job, a project, a course or a skill. Resume pattern for freshers: objective, education, projects and internships, skills, activities.
CV ideas for students
CV ideas for students and freshers: add your final-year project, a society you ran, a competition you entered, or a short online course with a certificate. These fill a thin CV honestly.
Resume for a first job
For your first job, keep it to one page, put education and projects at the top, and write a clear objective. Browse jobs for freshers, Matric-pass jobs and Intermediate-pass jobs to see what employers ask for.
CV examples for common jobs
Use these points as a starting point, then change them to match what you actually did.
- Teacher CV: classes and subjects taught, board results, lesson planning, co-curricular activities. See teaching jobs.
- Nursing CV: registration, wards worked in, patient care, emergency and ICU experience, BLS. See medical jobs.
- Accountant CV (including CA trainees): ledgers, reconciliations, tax returns, audits, ERP software.
- Assistant manager resume: team size, targets, reports, stock, customer complaints handled.
- Aircraft maintenance technician resume: licences, aircraft types, inspections, maintenance logs, safety compliance.
- Video editor CV: software (Premiere Pro, After Effects), types of projects, turnaround times, portfolio link.
- Brand designer resume: tools, brands worked with, portfolio link, campaigns.
- Computer operator / data entry CV: typing speed, MS Office, records handled per day.
These are generic resume examples — the best CV examples are the ones rewritten for each job. Great resume examples and excellent resume examples all share one habit: every point says what changed because of the person's work. Looking for the best CV samples or best resume samples, or professional CV samples to download free? Use the example CV in each template as a CV sample or specimen of a resume for freshers, then replace every line with your own.
- BCom / B.Com student resume: accounting coursework, internship at an audit firm, Excel, Peachtree or QuickBooks.
- Assistant manager job responsibilities (resume): supervising staff, meeting sales targets, daily reporting, stock control, handling complaints.
- Writer resume sample: published articles with links, subjects covered, word counts, deadlines met.
CV for jobs in Pakistan
CV format in Pakistan
The CV format in Pakistan is the same reverse-chronological layout used worldwide, with a few local habits:
- A photo is common and often expected
- For government jobs, the application form usually asks for CNIC, domicile and a qualification table — attach your CV as well if asked
- English is the standard language for CVs
- Keep it to one or two pages, even for senior roles, unless the post is academic
Pakistani CV sample: switch between the templates in the builder above — each opens with an example CV for an accountant in Lahore that you can replace with your own details.

One page or two? PDF or Word?
Should a resume be one page?
Should resumes be one page? Are resumes supposed to be one page? For freshers and people with under five years of experience, yes — a one-page resume is easier to read. Can a resume be 2 pages? Yes, if you have more than five years of relevant experience. Can a resume be 2 pages for freshers? Rarely; cut it to one. A CV over 2 pages is fine only for academic, research and senior medical posts.
Why should a resume be one page? Recruiters spend a few seconds on the first look. Everything important should be visible without turning the page.
The builder marks where page two starts in the preview, so you can see when to cut.
Should a CV be PDF or Word?
PDF, unless the employer asks for Word — in which case press Download Word. A PDF looks the same on every phone and computer, keeps your fonts and layout, and — when it has real text, as this builder's does — is read correctly by ATS software. CV in PDF format is what this builder downloads.
- How to save a CV as PDF: press Download PDF, and in the print window choose Save as PDF as the destination. This is also how to convert a CV to PDF on any computer.
- Editing a PDF CV: keep your details in the builder instead of editing the PDF; change them here and download a fresh PDF. That is easier than any PDF CV editor.
- CV to Word: press Download Word for an editable .docx file.
- Resume to PDF converter: you do not need a separate CV to PDF converter — the print window's Save as PDF turns any document into a PDF, for free.
- Resume to CV converter: there is no conversion as such. Add your full education, all jobs and training to turn a one-page resume into a full CV; trim to the most relevant items to go the other way. Resume in Excel (xls) format? Don't — send PDF or Word.

Why this CV maker has no AI
Plenty of AI CV makers and AI resume builders write your CV for you. This one deliberately doesn't. It lays out what you write, cleanly, in the design you choose:
- Recruiters recognise generic AI-written text and it counts against you
- Only you know what you actually did and achieved
- Nothing you type is sent to an AI service, or anywhere else
The same goes for a CV generator AI or resume generator AI that writes whole sections, and for a resume job description generator: use their output as notes, never as your final text.
If you draft points with ChatGPT or another assistant, rewrite them in your own words with real numbers before you paste them in — a CV by ChatGPT that is not edited reads like everyone else's.
Choosing a CV maker
Which CV maker is the best? Of all the top resume builder websites and best resume building sites, look for these:
- Free to download — not free to design and paid to download
- No sign-up or payment details
- PDF with real text, so application software can read it
- Several templates, including simple one-column ones
- Works on mobile
- Your data stays private
This builder meets all of them. Is this resume builder free? Yes — every feature, every template, every download. Which resume builder is completely free? One that never asks for payment at any step; this one never does.
When you read CV maker reviews, check for these points first. You also do not need a resume making service or the nearest CV composing shop to get a professional CV — the templates handle the design, and you know your own experience best.

A CV is a complete record of your education and career and can run to several pages; a resume is a one-page summary tailored to one job. In Pakistan, "CV" is used for both.
Is a CV and a resume the same thing?
Nearly, in everyday use. Strictly, a resume is shorter and tailored to the job, while a CV is complete.
Which CV format is best?
Reverse-chronological: newest job first, with standard headings. It is the best format for most jobs in Pakistan and for ATS software.
How do I make a CV for a job for free?
Fill in the form on this page, choose a template and press Download PDF. There is no sign-up and no charge.
Can I make a CV on my phone?

What is an ATS-friendly CV?
A CV that applicant tracking software can read correctly: one column, standard headings, real text rather than images, and a PDF with selectable text.

For most jobs in Pakistan a professional photo is common and often expected. For online applications to multinationals or overseas employers, leave it off.
How long should a CV be?
One page for freshers and people with under five years of experience; two pages at most for experienced professionals. Academic CVs can be longer.
Should my CV be in PDF or Word?

Can I download my CV in Word format?
Yes. Press Download Word to get an editable .docx file with a clean one-column layout that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs and WPS Office.
Is there a free ATS checker?
Yes. Open "ATS check" in the builder, paste the job advert and press Check my CV. You get a score, the keywords you have and the ones you are missing, and a list of fixes. It is free and runs on this page.

Two to four lines: your role or field, your experience or qualification, two or three strengths, and the kind of job you want.
What is a good career objective for freshers?

Do I need references on my CV?
Only if the employer asks. Otherwise write "References available on request" or leave the section out.
How do I make a CV with no experience?
Lead with education, then add projects, internships, volunteering, skills and short courses. A clear objective helps.
Can a resume be two pages?
Yes, if you have more than five years of relevant experience. Freshers should keep to one page.
What is the best CV template for freshers?
A simple one-column template such as Centred Classic or Times Classic, which puts your education and skills clearly first.
